Your wedding music
These days a lot of guests at weddings may be unfamiliar with the hymns or songs that you choose for your special day, and it is a good idea to have a choir to lead the singing. The choir may also be able to sing during the signing of the register.
The scope and ability of musical resources varies from church to church. Some have no choir at all, and in others, if you are getting married in the holiday season you may find a church choir is smaller than usual and unable to offer its usual repertoire. The Cantabile Ensemble can help.
The Cantabile Ensemble is a group of local musicians specialising in Church Music who, between them, have many years of experience in providing music of a high standard in local churches, cathedrals, and for special occasions. We will not accept your booking unless we are confident that we have sufficient musicians available to meet your musical requirements.
You can view our suggestions on our wedding music page.
When choosing your music, you may find the following helpful:
Wedding hymns and songs
Your priest or minister will tell you how many hymns you need to choose. There are often subtle variations in the words depending on the hymn book, and if you are having service sheets printed, please provide sufficient for the choir as well as your invited guests.
You don’t have to be traditional in your choice of music, and some modern Worship Songs work well. Sometimes these are best accompanied on different instruments to the organ. Whatever your taste, we are always pleased to advise on suitable choices and tunes.

Organ music
Organ music is traditional for Church weddings. Typically, a separate fee is payable for the organist - either your own or one provided by your church. Please note that organs vary from church to church and what may be suitable for one instrument may not be suitable on another.
The organ will normally be played as you and your guests come in and leave the church. It will also accompany hymns and anthems e.g. during the signing of the register.
Organists tend to be of various standards and have different repertoires. This should be considered when selecting your music and we are always pleased to recommend suitable Organists.
Anthems
The Cantabile Ensemble can sing anthems before and during the service. Typically, anthems are sung during the signing of the register. We offer a varied repertoire including music suitable for every part of the service. We are also happy to consider special requests, subject to the availability of suitable music and musicians.
Solos
We can help you to find suitable solo singers or instrumentalists.
Fees
Typically £400 for up to 3 hymns and an anthem from our repertoire. Quotations for additional music or items not included in our music list will be provided on request. Fees for Organists and soloists are negotiated separately.
Please note that we reserve the right to charge an additional fee in respect of the performing rights of The Cantabile Ensemble, or any other musicians booked through us, if an audio or video recording is made of your wedding service. Performing rights fees due to other parties are the responsibility of the bride and groom.
